Olli is a solar-powered, self-driving smart electric shuttle bus that is being piloted in Washington DC.  There are self driving taxis piloted in San Diego, CA.  Uber and Google have invested hundreds of millions of dollars on self driving car efforts.  It is also interesting the efforts have included using  IBM Watson.  IBM Watson is an artificial intelligence computing system that utilizes natural language processing, information retrieval, knowledge representation, automated reasoning, and machine learning technologies to the field of open domain question answering to assist in answering questions and driving new world life solutions including driving.  The system has famously competed in the game show Jeopardy! and chess matches.

In fact, it’s a genuine product — dubbed “Olli” — created by Arizona-based automaker Local Motors and powered by IBM Watson’s cognitive learning car technology, IBM Watson Internet of Things (IoT) for Automotive. Packed with more than 30 sensors and capable of carrying up to 12 people, Olli is currently running on local public roads in Washington DC, and will expand to Miami-Dade County and Las Vegas later this year.
